In an emergency, call your local emergency number first
Acil SOS does not replace emergency services and cannot guarantee a rescue. Call 112 (Türkiye, EU), 911 (USA, Canada), 999 (UK) or the emergency number of the country you are in.

Frequently asked questions
How does SOS work?
Press the large SOS button on the home screen. In Settings → SOS → Hold duration (s) you choose how long it must be held (0–5 s, default 1 s); 0 means a single tap is enough.
When the SOS starts, all your accepted contacts get a high-priority notification with your location and battery level at that moment.
To stop it, use CANCEL on the active SOS screen (how long to hold it is set in Stop duration (sec)). For 3 seconds after stopping you can tap Undo; your contacts are told the SOS has ended only after those 3 seconds.
Automatic triggers (for example a strong shake, if you turned it on) first show a countdown (default 30 s) so you can cancel before anything is sent.
How can I try SOS without alarming my contacts?
Turn on Settings → SOS → Test mode, then trigger SOS as usual. The screen shows a TEST MODE banner and your contacts receive a normal notification marked [TEST] — it does not break through Do Not Disturb and is clearly shown as not real.
Test mode is saved on this device only. Remember to turn it off afterwards.
How do I add contacts?
Open Contacts → Add Contact → Invite Code, choose a role for the person and tap Generate Code. Share the code (valid for 72 hours) by message or WhatsApp.
The other person opens Add Contact → Enter Code, types the code, then confirms it under Invitations → Accept. This two-step confirmation makes sure nobody is added without agreeing. Once accepted, you are connected in both directions.
The Circle tab shows your contacts and their status on a map.
Which permissions does the app need, and how do I enable them?
- Location (only while using the app) — to add your position to an SOS and share it with your contacts.
- Notifications — to receive your contacts' SOS alerts and earthquake alerts.
- Contacts (optional) — only to pick a person to send an invite to.
iPhone: Settings → Acil SOS → Location → “While Using the App” (keep Precise Location on); Notifications → Allow Notifications.
Android: Settings → Apps → Acil SOS → Permissions → Location → “Allow only while using the app”; Notifications → On.
I'm not receiving notifications — what should I check?
- Notifications are allowed for Acil SOS (see permissions above).
- Focus / Do Not Disturb: on iPhone add Acil SOS to the allowed apps or allow Time Sensitive notifications; on Android allow the app's SOS notification category to override Do Not Disturb.
- Battery saver: on Android set Acil SOS's battery usage to “Unrestricted”; on iPhone, Low Power Mode can delay notifications.
- The app is updated to the latest version and you have opened it at least once since updating.
- You have an internet connection, and the invitation with your contact was accepted.
- Ask a contact to send a test SOS (Test mode) to check that everything works.
Where do earthquake alerts come from?
Acil SOS uses public earthquake data from AFAD (Türkiye) and USGS (worldwide). It has no official agreement with these agencies.
You are notified of earthquakes of magnitude 4.0+ within 200 km of your location, and of any 6.5+ earthquake worldwide. These thresholds are the same for all users and cannot be changed; the filters in the earthquake list only change what is displayed.
Alerts are sent after an earthquake has happened. They are information only, not an early warning system.
What does the disaster map show?
The public disaster map shows earthquakes of magnitude 5.0+ from the last 24 hours.
SOS signals appear on it only during a major disaster: within 200 km of a 6.0+ earthquake from the last 72 hours, and only from users who turned on the optional consent Public Location During Disaster (Settings → Privacy (KVKK) → Consent Management). Medical information is shown only with the separate consent Public Medical Info During Disaster (special category).
Pins are anonymous — no name or contact details — and are removed 24 hours after the last signal, or earlier if the SOS is cancelled or the consent is withdrawn.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings → Privacy (KVKK) → Delete my account, then Confirm.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Your profile details, medical card, location history, contacts (in both directions), devices and settings are deleted and you are signed out everywhere. Records we must keep by law (audit and consent logs) are kept only under an anonymous ID.
If you can't use the app, send a deletion request (in Turkish). Details: Privacy Policy.
How is my data protected?
Your location goes to your contacts when you trigger an SOS, or as you set in each contact's location-sharing option. Location data is deleted automatically after 30 days. Your ID number and medical card are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM), and all traffic uses HTTPS.
